Art Nouveau 14K Rose Gold Sapphire Diamond Ring

A gorgeous 14K Rose Gold ring with deep blue sapphire and accent diamond from circa 1890s, Art Nouveau era. The ring features a principal oval cabochon cut sapphire set on top of a glittering diamond to depict a flower with its stem gently curved. The shoulders bear the signature asymmetrical, sinuous lines also known as whiplash creating a dramatic visual and design to the ring.
The Art Nouveau style, also known as Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme in Catalan as well as Modern Style in English, was highly decorative and sought to revive good workmanship, raise the status of craft and produce genuinely modern design reflecting the utility of the items that were created.
The same organic and geometric forms can be seen in architecture, furniture, paintings, fashion, and jewellery of the time.
